VOL. V, NO. 6
"School spirit is great at football games and basketball games, but other teams would like to see some spectators show up for their meets, especially wrestlers," commented Dick Jensen, this week's Warrior of the West.
In Dick's four years at Maine he has participated in three years of cross‑country and four years of wrestling. In wrestling, he has earned his numerals and two varsity letters.
"Maine West should be proud of its great coaches," answered Dick, to the question, "What do you think is outstanding at Maine West?"
"Wrestling is a tough sport, and there is no real advice for boys who want to go out. When they do go out, they must be willing to work hard, keep weight, and do a lot of hard running," stated Dick. "Participating in sports gives responsibility to myself and the team."
Defeating Prospect 4-2 in the last match for District championship in the 95-pound class was Dick's most outstanding match. It enabled him to go on to sectional competition, where he took another first. Days before he was to go down state, unfortunately, he broke his leg. Again this year, Dick is trying for an undefeated season and a second chance at the State championship.
Dick finds that weightlifting and sports participation rank high as his hobbies and pastime. As in the past, victories head Dick's record so far this year. In all four meets, he has pinned opponents in either the first or second periods.
