AFS Week's Drawing Near
What is AFS? The letters stand for American Field Service, but to the students at Maine it means foreign exchange student.
Student Council has already passed the request for a foreign exchange student next fall. The only problem is to raise enough money to get him or her to the U.S. and then to Des Plaines. To raise the money, Student Council is sponsoring an AFS Week, January 27th through 31st.
On Monday there will be nominations for the cutest dimple contest in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. Each student is allowed only one vote toward the nomination. After school, ice cream will be sold in the cafeteria.
Tuesday, voting will continue for the cutest dimple, and on Wednesday pictures will be displayed of those with the highest number of votes. Voting must be during lunch periods. No limit is placed on the number of votes that may be cast. Voting will cost 1 cent per vote. After school on Wednesday there will be a 10‑cent day with clubs and classes competing for the prize.
Voting and a taffy apple sale will be on Thursday, and a record hop will be given in the cafeteria after school on Friday. Tickets, costing 25 cents, will be sold all week during lunch periods. The dimple contest winners, one boy and one girl, will be announced.
Mary Reed '64, Student Council AFS chairman, suggests that everyone come to all of the activities to help finance our next foreign exchange student.
