Visual Aids Awarded At Maine W.
"Three thousand dollars worth of visual teaching aids, won by Maine West, arrived over the holidays," announced Mr. Verne Brownell, audio visual director.

The equipment, including 11 overhead transparency projectors and 2 transparency machines, was part of a $1,500,000 grant in visual aids awarded to 5,000 schools throughout the nation by the Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Corporation. News of the contest was sent out in late September to the principals of over 14,000 schools in the Chicago area, including Mr. Herman L. Rider, principal of Maine West. The competing schools had two months in which to compile their reasons for wanting the projectors. The best proposals were then chosen by a local selection committee and sent to a national board of well known educators where the final winners were decided upon. Maine West ranked among the University of Illinois, Loyola University, and 14 other Chicagoland schools who were also awarded equipment.

"The projectors were permanently divided between the Science and Social Science Departments, who were primarily responsible for their acquisition," revealed Mr. Brownell. "This allowed the school's five older overhead projectors to be placed on a check out plan and made available to any teacher."
