Gymnasts To Play Spartans
The Maine West varsity gymnastics team will open conference play tomorrow afternoon, when they travel to Glenbrook North. The Spartans so far this year have yet to win a meet and, in their last outing, were trampled by Maine East 94‑38.
In past action the Warrior gymnasts have won two meets while losing two. The musclemen defeated Morton East 91-41 and Niles West 68-64 Losses have come from the hands of Willowbrook 77-55 and Proviso West 83-49.
Leading the way in all of these meets has been side horse man Tom Roessing. Tom has placed first in every meet this year except the first one against Evanston, where he took a third
In last Friday's meet against Niies West, the Warrior gymnasts started off badly, losing the trampoline event 14-8, but fought back to win the side horse, 12-10, high bar 13-9, and parallel bars 12-10. Niles then took the rings event 13-9 and the lead 56-54. In the final event, tumbling, Fred Bach took a first and Dave Woolard a second to pace the Warriors to a 14-8 event victory and a 68-64 meet victory. Bishop Kennett, and Roessing also took firsts.
