West Faces Glenbrook Tonight;
Undefeated in Conference Play
In their first home appearance since the sixth of December, the varsity cagers tonight take on Glenbrook North at the Maine East fieldhouse. Showing improvement in recent games, the Spartans will be rough and ready trying to knock the Warriors off the top spot in MidSuburban competition.

In their most recent encounter, the Warriors beat the Titans of Glenbrook South by the incredibly low score of 33-15. The lack of scoring was not due to the poor shooting of the Warriors, but rather to the complete indifference of standard basketball tactics displayed by the Glenbrook five. During the entire game, whenever the Titans got the ball they seemed satisfied passing around the outside and never attempting to score. During the entire game they only hit one field goal with the balance of their scoring coming from free throws.

Last Friday Maine faced the Falcons of Forest View. Although the cagers seemed to have had left their shooting eyes at home, they managed to walk over the Falcons 50‑36.
Beat the Knights

On January 10th, the Warriors traveled to Prospect for their first conference encounter. Even though the cheering section was embarrassed, MW trounced the Knights 60-44. Although Smith and Wehlacz hit in double figures, the high scorer that night was White of Prospect with 21 points.

Over the Christmas vacation, Maine played in the Proviso Holiday Basketball Tourney. For the second year in a row West took the runner‑up position.

In the final game, Maine met Proviso East's Pirates, who are ranked eighth in the state by the UPI. The Warriors played a fair ball game and came within one basket of winning. The final score was Proviso East 55 and Maine West 53. By scoring 17 points in the final game, Wehlacz set a tourney scoring record of 98 points for four games. This broke the earlier record set by Furgeson of Leyden.
