VOL. V, NO. 7
Jimo Kuhrt, this week's Warrior of the West, seems to enjoy breaking 100‑yard breaststroke records, like a certain senior girl, and eats Fritos during "Warrior of the West" interviews.
Jimo has set breaststroke records in 9 meets, his latest being 1:07.1, two and four‑tenths seconds faster than any other Maine West swimmer has ever done. At the Riverside‑Brookfield relays on January 12th, Jimo took second place in the 100‑yard breaststroke competition. Considering that there were 50 entrants from 26 schools, this is a terrific accomplishment.
Jimo lettered in swimming as a sophomore. He also took 10 firsts and two second places in 12 meets that year. When questioned as to the possibility of taking Conference, Jimo remarked, "Team effort is the key. We still have to face Deerfield and Glenbrook North, but our team, working together, can do it."
"I don't like the rivalry that exists between different athletes," was Jimo's response when asked about his pet peeve. "All our teams work together to bring credit and glory to Maine West, and the spirit of rivalry between inter‑school teams shouldn't occur."
After graduation, Jimo hopes to attend either the University of Illinois or Michigan State University.
