Brotherhood Society
Gains New Members
"I've got it, have you?" was the slogan of this year's Brotherhood Week, and Brotherhood Society hopes this question was answered "yes" by every Maine West student. The activities of Brotherhood Week included the voting fro six new members from each class, three boys and three girls, and the Brotherhood assembly today. Organized by Brotherhood Society's officers, these elections attempt to promote the spirit of brotherhood at Maine West.
Chosen by their classmates this week to be inducted into the Brotherhood Society for the coming year were Seniors Sue Dombrowski, Marty Muncy, Karen Struebing, Davis Hall, Wayne Markworth, and Bob Steinbrink. From the Junior Class were Diane Dormeyer, Lynn Johnson, Linda Petkus, Berie Braun, John Carley, and Mark Sorenson. Sophomores were Harriet Hall, Lynn Struebing, Cheri Mercer, Bob Burgess, Brand Gustus, Bob Kunkel, and Phil Martin. Freshmen were Nancy Gunn, Sheila Quinn, Pat Radlein, Jay Carley, Bill Murphy, and Mark Romness.
The officers are president, Chuck Esposito '64; vice president, Neshian Keshian '64; secretary, Paula Clayton '65; good will chairman, Maureen Quinn '64. The society's sponsor is Mr. A. K. H. Cochrane, dean of students at Maine West.
Voting for new members took place in the homerooms Tuesday, February 4th when students voted for one boy and one girl from each class. These people were chosen because of their display of brotherly qualities such as friendliness, poise, and maturity. The honor is given in appreciation of this person's efforts to "foster the spirit of brotherhood at Maine West.''
At the Brotherhood assembly the speaker, Mr. Les Brownlee, spoke on the subject "Brotherhood Now." He was referred to Maine West by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Mr. Brownlee has worked on several newspapers, among them the Chicago Defender, Chicago American, Daily News, and the Vice Chairman of the Illinois Commission on Human Relations.
