41 Selected Semi‑Finalists
The Illinois State Scholarship Commission has announced that 41 Maine West students have qualified as semi-finalists in the 1964-65 State Scholarship program on the basis of their academic record and test resuits.
Maine West seniors qualifying as semi‑finalists are Judith Bales, Thomas Balma, Raymond Bartholomae, Louis Bauman, Marjorie Beck, Kathleen Benson, Janis Bocskay, John Borzoni, Louise Brosseit, Bruce Carlson, Diana Clarke, Bruce Congalton, Sherry Drager, Craig Ehlen, and Valerie Enggas.
Other semi‑finalists are John Gabbert, Donald Grundler, James Hatfield, Lee Hayward, Jeffrey Higgins, Philip Hway, David Kelly, Donna King, Ernest Larsen, Robert Larson, Robert Martin, Kenneth Miller, William Morgan, Cynthia Noyer, Daniel O'Connell, Alfred Pease, Jacquelyn Priaino, Leo Plas, Todd Riddell, Karen Rivard, Steven Ross, Barb Solka, Karen Strudthoff, Jan Virostko, Jill Williams, and Donna Wolf.
The semi-finalists represent students who sought State Scholarship consideration by taking the ACT test on November 9th, 1963. All semi-finalists are being notified and will receive application materials to be completed and returned to the commission for final consideration. The 1964-65 first-year winners will be announced in April.
Monetary and Honorary awards will be granted to qualified semi‑finalists who attend approved colleges or universities within the State of Illinois. The maximum monetary award has recently been increased to $750. Honorary awards are granted when financial need does not exist.
In recognition of outstanding achievement, certificates of merit are given to all state scholarship winners including those who forfeit further consideration by their choice of an unapproved or out‑of‑state institution.
