VOL. V, NO. 8
Red, White, Black Chosen
New South School Colors
The colors red, black, and white have been chosen to represent Maine South's student body when the school opens next August. The school will go under the name of the Maine South Hawks.
Of the 66 students at West now affected by the boundary lines which would put them in South, approximately 26 have requested to remain at West for their senior year. The board ruled that those seniors might have a choice this year. They will, however, need to furnish their own transportation.
Mr. Clyde Watson, assistant principal at Maine East, was elected principal of Maine South by the Township High School Board of Education. Mr. Watson, 47, will receive a Ph. D. from Northwestern in June. He has been a member of the Maine East Township High School's professional staff since 1944. He advanced from a math teacher to Dean of Boys, and in 1960 was chosen assistant principal.
At the beginning of the second semester, January 27th, Mr. Watson took over his new responsibility as principal. He is involved in staffing the school, meeting with parents' groups, assisting student registration, planning the program of studies, and establishing traditions.
Other appointments that have been filled that will affect Maine West teachers and administration are chairman of the English Department, Mr. Marlan Davis; chairman of Driver Education, Mr. John Mineriek; chairman of the Social Science Department, Mr. Otto Kohler, Jr.; chairman of Business Education, Mr. Oliver Brown; chairman of Girl's Physical Education, Miss Kathryn Pierce; Career Counselor, Mrs. Helen Stuart; Dean of Girls, Miss Roberta Iliff; and assistant principal at Maine East, Mr. John Clouser, former dean of students at West.
