A Valentine
By Peggy Pepmiler

What is a valentine?
An elaborate heart,
Or a box of sweet candy
From the street‑corner‑mart?

A manufactured saying
Or bright catchy rhyme
Like, "My sweet little valentine
Will you be mine?"

A valentine's something
You can't simply buy
For a nickel, or quarter,
Or one small thin dime.

The thought in the card
Is what counts‑not the price.
Even the simplest card
Can really be nice.
