Yon Days of Yore
By Jane Wolski
February 13th, 1964 - "Staggering stalagmites! Hey, Nurd, come look at those earthlings! How much longer will the ordeal last?"
"Why, Urd! All the longhaired she‑creatures are chasing the greasy‑haired he‑creatures."
February 14th, 1964 - "Hey, Urd! It's time for that once-a-year phenomenon, the Fhgkr Bgnhbd Czmbd!"
"When will it end?"
"Probably around 23:30 o'clock."
"Gastronomic galaxies! What are they doing now?"
"Palpitating their pelvises. You know, it reminds me of that archaic dance, the twist; but that went out with walking on two legs."
"It's too bad, kid. You don't remember the good old days, before supersonic subterraninean civilizations. Why, I can remember an old custom when the fhgkrs chased the boys. I don't remember what it was called, but it was kinda nice to have them dole out the herns once in a while."
"Well, Nurd, at least you get to watch those earthlings go I through their paces once a year. And look at the advantages of Uranian life. Just sit back in your rocking chair look through your telescope, and enjoy the spectacle."
"You have it your way, Urd, but every once in a while I say to myself, 'Nurd, I wish I was people!"
