Bucketmen Win Seven In A Row
With consecutive wins over Glenbrook North, Deerfield, and Prospect, the bucketmen have stretched their unbeaten string to seven and have a Conference record of 6-0. The Warriors meet Forest View tonight, and will try to make it two in a row over the Falcons. Forest View is led by Joe Mueller, last year's scoring champion.
Beat Knights
Last Saturday the cagers met the Knights of Prospect at East's fieldhouse. With school spirit and pep reaching new heights, the Warriors walked over the Knights 51-40. In this hard fought defensive contest, Wehlacz contributed 18 points, Smith 12, Dennis Gundling 9, and Stoney Jackson 6. Gobielle was high man for Prospect with 15 points.
The night before, the Maine West Warriors traveled to Deerfield to whip them 70-46. In that game Wehacz and Smith had nine field goals each with Wehlacz winning out at the free throw line, five to four, for 23 points. John Gabbert, the varsity sparkplug, made five buckets and seven free throws for 18 points. Jackson got the two remaining scores from the floor, the balance of the scoring coming from the free throw line. Hirsch was high man for Deerfield with 13 points.
The Warriors downed the Glenbrook North Spartans 50-36 on January 24th. Sharing the scoring spotlight were Wehlacz, Smith, and Gabbert with 19, 15, and 11 points, respectively. Erler of Glenbrook had 13 points to spark the losers.
Jim Smith is second in the Mid‑Suburban Conference scoring honors with a total of 96 points. Joe Wehlacz is a close third with 95 points.
