Coach Carlini's Men Charge On
As far as varsity wrestling coach Richard Carlini is concerned, the grapplers clinched the Conference championship when they defeated Deerfield 22-19 on Friday, January 31st.
The Warriors have one meet left which will be against Glenbrook South tonight in A‑wing gym at 7 p.m. Coach Carlini believes that this meet will be an easy victory for the grappIers.
The results of the Deerfield meet were as follows: 95 pound Dick Jensen won, 6‑0; 103‑John Krumpos lost, 5‑0; 112‑Jim Keller tied, 0‑0; 120‑Joe Panegasser lost, 8‑0; 127‑John Fowler lost, 7‑1; 133-Terry Klatt won, 6-2; 138-Erv Geisler won, 7-2; 145-John Congalton lost, 6-1; 154-Mike Tompkins won, 7-5; 165-Jim Cichowski won, 7-0; 180-Bob Larsen was pinned in 1:57.
At this point our Warriors were behind, 19-17. Then, heavyweight Bill Rosenbergh came on to the mat and won the meet by pinning his opponent in 1:33.
Beat Glenbrook North
Glenbrook North fell to the Warriors, 28-16, on Friday, January 24th. In this meet, Jensen pinned his man in 4:48; Krumpos won, 5-1; Keller won, 8-5; Panegasser lost, 5-0; O'Hare was pinned in 1:41; Klatt won, 1-0; Geisler won, 7-0; Riedel won, 3-2; Tompkins was pinned in 3:58; Cichowski won, 7-4; Praxmarer lost, 8-0; and Rosenbergh finished the meet by pinning his opponent in 2:58. The results of this meet made Coach Carlini very happy as this was the Warriors' first victory over Glenbrook North.
Not too far away are the District meets which will be held at Forestview on February 14th and 15th. The Sectionals will follow on February 21st and 22nd at Arlington, and on February 28th and 29th, the State finals will take place at Northwestern University.
