Warrior of the West
Five foot, six inch senior side horse man, Tom Roessing, is this week's Warrior of the West. Tom, the number one man on Coach Sid Drain's varisty gymnastics squad, is outstanding in the side horse event. In nine meets so far this year Tom has placed first in eight of them and, in the first meet against Evanston, Tom took a third place.

When asked about this year's team and chances for a Conference championship, Tom replied, "This year's team is vastly improved over last year's, and with a lot of hard work, the idea of a Conference championship could become a reality."

Tom, while spending time in the sports area, also finds time to keep his grades in the upper half of the Senior Class. After graduation from Maine West, he would like to enter either Southern Illinois or George Williams College.

As for favorite foods, this dark‑haired senior rates roast beef, chicken, steak, and malted milks high on his list.

Asked what sports at West have given him, Tom commented, "I have had a lot of fun from sports at Maine, and they have given me the chance to meet people from other schools and make new friends."

Tom's pet peeve is people who think gymnastics is an easy sport.

As a closing remark, Tom mentioned, "My biggest thrill so far has been last year when I placed seventh in the state on the side horse. I think Maine has fairly good school spirit, but if all the students would really come out and back all the sports, our school could progress even more in athletics."
