Legionaires Giving Tests
"For the sixth consecutive year, the American Legion Post 36 of Des Plaines will sponsor a United States Constitution contest for Maine West students. The winner will be awarded a $100 college scholarship and a trip to Washington, D.C.," announced Mr. Otto Kohler, Social Science Department chairman.

"A preliminary written test will be given to the participants," revealed Mr. James Radlein, American Legion member and chairman of the Americanism Committee. "The students receiving the highest scores will then be interviewed by a six‑man committee of distinguished Legion members who will choose the final winner."
Although the contest is open primarily to juniors and seniors, underclassmen may enter by registering with Mr. Kohler. Copies of previous test questions and a list of recommended books to be used in preparing for the contest can be acquired in the school library.

A definite test date has not been set. According to Mr. Radlein, the test date will be chosen in early spring to accommodate the schedules of the majority of Maine West students. The person who is awarded the scholarship will have his or her name inscribed on a plaque with the names of the five previous winners.

"In order to assure absolute secrecy," confided Mr. Radlein, "even the selection committee members will not see the interview questions before the day of the contest."
