Institute Day Is February 24
School will be dismissed for the students next Monday, February 24th, for Teachers' Institute Day. The teachers will have a day of speeches and meetings.

Dr. L. J. Buford, superintendent of schools, Mount Vernon, Illinois, will be the guest speaker. His talk will be on "Recognition of Competence in Teaching."

After Dr. Buford's talk, a panel will discuss additional insights and give comments on the topic. Making up the panel will be Mrs. Helen Elvin, Maine East; Mrs. Jo Collins, Junior High; Mr. Larew Collister, Maine West; Mr. E. W. Bagg, superintendent Maine schools; Dr. John Lee, professor Northwestern University; and Dr. Robert Zeller, guidance director, State Office of Public Instruction. The moderator will be Mr. Vernon Hamilton, principal of Emerson Junior High School.
In the afternoon the different departments will have their own meetings in rooms at Maine West. The mathematics, music, counselors, nurses, and special service teachers will go on a field trip to University of Chicago, Hammond Organ Company, and Forest Hospital in Des Plaines, respectively.

Maine West's Show Band will perform during the morning program. Luncheon will be served in the cafeteria.
