Maine's Bucketmen Clinch Share
of Conference Title
Regional '64, Maine West's next attempt at statewide athletic glory begins March 2nd at Glenbrook North. This regional should prove to be one of the toughest in the state, matching the Warriors with New Trier, Glenbrook North, Evanston and Maine East. The Warriors are scheduled to meet Glenbrook North in their first game.
Clinch at Least a Tie in Mid‑Suburban
The Warriors have cinched at least a tie for the Mid-Suburban League crown with a conference record of 8-0. Only two games remain in the conference season, those being with Glenbrook North and Deerfield. Prospect's 6-2 record comes closest to equaling the unblemished record held by the Maine West five.
In their most recent conference clash the cagers crushed Glenbrook South 72-39 at East's fieldhouse. In the 72 point scoring spree, Joe Whelacz had 21 points, Jim Smith 20, and Stoney Jackson 12. The game started off slow, but after the first quarter the Warriors improved their faltering aim and roared to an 18 point lead at half-time, 35-17. The second half progressed much as the first, highlighted by a number of long and wild down court passes by the Titans.
One week earlier the Warriors knocked off Forest View's Falcons. Smith and Wehlacz both hit double figures in that 56-31 triumph.
