| Though the business of national politics too often seems distant to the non-voter, the election this year will affect everyone's life. Even the student who cannot vote should acquaint himself with the parties, platforms, and issues of the '64 election. Once a President has been in office for four years, the chances are he will be re-elected. The election this year will greatly influence the election in four years the time many high school students will be of voting age. One might ask what he can do to support the candidate of his choice. Mock elections in local high schools have a definite impact on citizens of the community who are of voting age. In college the Young Republican and Young Democratic Organizations hold campaigns, have fund-raising |
activities, and make known the attributes of the candidate they support. Party headquarters in every city welcome volunteers who are sincere and mature in their reasons for joining, even when these volunteers are not of voting age. The opinions of the young people of today do have merit. A person needs experience and knowledge to know what constitutes a man he would want in office. The young person of today can get that experience by supporting a candidate in this election. The opinions he forms are based on this knowledge and therefore have merit. Let the young people of today use what they have learned; let them take this knowledge to form valid convictions. The high school students of today can change the world they are inheriting. |
