West Opens Conference Defense
The Warrior eleven will open the defense of their Mid-Suburban title tonight against Glenbrook South at GB North's athletic field. Both teams were defeated by narrow margins in their openers, Maine West falling to Peoria 6-0, and GB bowing to St. Viator of Arlington Heights 2-0.

Although the Titans carried a size advantage to St. Viator last week, they were short on experience. GB South has been rated a dark horse in the MidSuburban League and will present some stiff opposition for the Warriors.

To get to the GB athletic field, take route 45 to Willow Road. Turn east on Willow until reaching Shermer Road at the stoplight just before the Glenview Naval air field. Turn north and the school is about onehalf mile on the west side of the road.

Peoria Stops Warriors

Last Saturday's loss to Peoria was a heartbreaker. The game's only score came on an 68-yard TD pass early in the third quarter.

The Warriors took the opening kick-off in the first quarter. Neither team had a serious scoring threat until Curren hit Kuzich with a pass good for 38 yards to the Lion's 12.

Here Central's defense stiffened and the Warriors were forced to try a field goal. Tom Smith's attempt from the 15 was blocked.

Neither team could move the ball out of its own territory for the remainder of the half. The Peorians returned the second half kick-off to their 28. On a third and five play from the 32, Weilbrock took a sideline pass, eluded his defender, and scampered down the sideline for the score.

After West missed a scoring opportunity via a fourth quarter fumble on the Lion 15, the Peoria eleven returned the favor. Jackson recovered Jockisch's fumble on the Maine 11.
Gun Stops Scoring Threat

The gridmen then marched all the way to the Lion one-yard line; the key plays in the drive

being passes from Curren to Peterson and Jackson for 16 and 18 yards, apiece.

With 59 seconds left Cichowski was dumped for a yard loss. He was stopped for no gain on the second down, but Peoria was penalized half the distance to the goal line for being off sides. Curren tried the off-right tackle, but was hit by Weilbrock at the one. As the Warriors lined up for their last down, the gun ended the game.

JVs Lose

Tomorrow, the JVS travel to GB South for their first Conference game. It will start at 6 p. m.

The JVers were defeated by Willowbrook last Saturday 21-0. On offense, the Warrior's backfield men were thrown for consistent losses. The first half was a good defensive struggle.

Sophs Beat Frosh

The sophomore football team will meet the GB South eleven in a home game, tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

Last Saturday, the sophomores beat the Frosh 20-0. Randy Ryden fell on a fumble for the TD. Ken Mandelke ran for the extra points. They scored again, but the extra point was stopped at the goal line. Near the end of the game, Ernie Fulbright ran across from the three-yard line to make the score 19-0. At this point, Mandelke again ran across for the extra point.

This Saturday, the Frosh eleven will battle the GB Titans. This game will also start at 9:30 am. The frosh show promise and will improve with experience.
