| "Our intramural program compares favorably with any in the state," boasted Mr. Miley Hotchkiss, director of intra-murals. "Again this year all Maine West boys will have a chance to compete in a full schedule of sports." Intramurals offer any boy who is not out for an interscholastic sport the opportunity to participate in athletics. Competition is always on a class basis, and teams for the sports are organized in physical education classes. Intramural golf and tennis are presently under way. Touch football will begin next Monday, September 28th, and a free swim is planned for each week during the fall. Other upcoming intramural sports include cross country, table tennis, and basketball. |
A Maine West intramural emblem is awarded to every boy who wins a class championship in an individual sport. The same award is given to members of a class champion team. At the end of the year a trophy is awarded to the boy earning the most points in his class. Points range from 50 for first place or class championship to 10 for third place finishers. Bonus points will be awarded to the team that does not forfeit a single game during an entire tournament. |
