| Elmwood Park, Illinois, was the scene of the Individual Events Competition sponsored by the Illinois High School Association. Four Maine West students participated-three debaters, and one speech student. Robert Reinhart '65, competed in extemporaneous speaking. He drew three topics to speak on and from these he chose the subject, "Should the U.S. withdraw from Viet Nam?" He was given an hour prior to competition to prepare his six-minute recitation. He took first place in his category. Doug Bergman '67, placed first in oratorical declamation. His speech was based on "Three Keys to a Proud Future," by David Saidler. |
Harriet Hall '66, recited a cutting from J.B. by Archibald MacLeish, and took second place in serious reading. Dawn Piotter '65, presented poetry by Stephen Crane, Marianne Moore, and Robert Frost. She placed fifth in Verse competition. Mary Leonard '65 gave a comedy reading. Students placing in first, second, or third place will go on to sectional competition on Feb. 27th, at Forest View High School. |
