The Regionals are less than two weeks away now, and, after the Warriors battle with the Vikings of Niles North a week from tomorrow, all attention will be turned toward these state eliminations. As usual, the Westmen have been placed in a rugged field, one of the most balanced in the area. The Maine West Regional includes such worthy opponents as Maine South, St. Pat's, and Forest View. Notre Dame, Maine East Ridgewood and Palatine Conant round out the eight team regional.

The eight teams are seeded according to coach polls. This year, Maine has been chosen No. 1 and has thus been given the most desirable schedule. The Warriors' first opponents will be the quintet from Conant School of Palatine. This was the team against whom
Wheeling picked up their lone win. So, unless they have improved considerably or have perfected a 32-minute stall, the Warriors are pretty well assured of a second-round berth. Also scheduled for Monday night is the contest between Notre Dame and Forest View. The winner will play West in the second round Wednesday, and right now it seems to be a tossup between the Dons and the Falcons. Notre Dame was favored in the coach polls; but ever since they lost high-scoring Mike Mulhern, who is out for the season with mononucleosis, they have lost most of their potency. Anyway, should the Warriors win Wednesday, they would have to worry about either St. Pat's or Maine South. Both are expected to win first-round matches against Maine East and Ridgewood, and St. Pat's is favored in the polls to topple Maine South. The Hawks from South have been improving lately, however, and have developed a devastating press which may give them just what they need to go on to the finals.
