Warrior of the West

This week The Westerner is honoring wrestling Warriors John Krumpos and Al Kruse.

John stands 5 feet 6 inches, weighs 112 pounds, and has blond hair and blue eyes. He advises hard work and determination. He likes wrestling, because it's an individual responsibility for each team member. In his three years of wrestling he has lettered twice.

"Beating a boy from Prospect who beat me earlier in the year was my biggest thrill," recalls John.

Running rates as John's hardest part of training. He then goes on to say that "students who don't come to watch the wrestling matches" are his major pet peeve. He adds that more emphasis should be placed on minor sports. John's hobbies are water skiing and hockey. He rates Floyd Patterson as his favorite athlete.
Al Kruse is a 6-foot 3-inch, 220-pound, brown-haired, and blue-eyed wrestler. His most thrilling match occurred during the Lake Park Quadrangular when he took a first. From wrestling Al has learned "sportsmanship, getting along with other guys, and the thrill of competition."

Al has been a wrestler for four years and has earned two letters. He has also played foot-ball for three years and has earned two letters.

School spirit for football is good, he says, but for wrestling it is poorer than in previous years.

The hardest part about training is "trying not to eat too much." His favorite hobby is motorcycling, but some of his time is devoted to a certain Maine East girl.

When asked who his favorite athlete is, Al replied that he admired Coach Carlini very much.

According to Al, his pet peeves are too many to mention. He plans to attend Northern Illinois University.
