Legend Staff Efforts Have Gone Unseen |
||||||||||
| During the majority of the school year, the hard work and often even the identity of the members of the Legend staff goes unnoticed. Students and faculty are aware of the sales campaign in the fall and the collection of unpaid balances in the spring, during which staff members give up lunch periods and study halls to brave the crowd of customers. They may also notice particular students firmly saying, "Please print your name" to identify photographs of clubs and organizations. The true test for the Legend staff comes in the spring when yearbooks are delivered, and only the reactions of students and faculty can effectively gauge the year's work. For the staff members and sponsor, though, the Legend is a year round project. One of the biggest problems is scheduling pictures with both the photographer and various groups. Once a date is set, there are several excuses offered when a group fails to show up: needing to get one's hair done, interference with rehearsals, absence of the sponsor, and simply forgetting the time. This means rescheduling the pictures and holding those pages involved beyond the deadline for which they were to be finished. The clubs and organizations and the activities editors face such problems. |
The staff meets daily, but some of the members are unavoidably scheduled for things like varsity gym, Chem II, and English III A.C.C. This results in a lack of communication between the editor and some key workers, who must be sought out at deadline time and be produced to work. This has resulted in such headaches for the editor that, in future years, all staff members must be scheduled for Legend. The business manager must correspond with the studio and occasionally with faculty members. Friendly relations between staff, faculty, and students are promoted by notices in the daily bulletin. Everyone on the Legend staff is familiar with the progress of the book and has access to facts on color and design of the cover, special sections, and candids. No amount of coaxing will gain such information, for the staff enjoys its secrets and wants to surprise students in the spring. The final deadline is approaching and with it the finishing touches for this year's Legend. The staff and sponsor have worked hard and hope to present the best Legend ever. |
