| Today The Westerner is honoring two outstanding trackmen as Warriors of the West, Rich Bokor and Lloyd Schiegel. Rich is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Rich has two letters for cross-country and has earned his third varsity letter in track this year. "Going down state in the 440 yard dash for track last year was my biggest thrill," said Rich. "Running the day after a meet is the hardest thing about practice," he commented. Rich's hobbies are a certain senior girl, reading James Bond books, and sleeping. Not just content to be an outstanding athlete, Rich also ranks in the upper third of his class and is a member of M Club and Boys' Business Club. When asked what advice he would give to a boy out for sport, he said, "Stick with it and don't quit." Rich has done this. Not earning his numerals in track his freshman year, Rich stuck with it to get his varsity letter as a sophomore and has turned into one of the best trackmen Maine has had. |
Lloyd Schlegel is 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. Lloyd owns two letters in both cross-country and track. This year he received the honor of being captain of the cross-country team. When asked how he thinks the tracksters will do this year, Lloyd pointed out that "Prospect will be rough, since they are strong in the sprints." Going down-state in the halfmile as a sophomore would have to be my biggest thrill," revealed Lloyd. Lloyd holds the school's field record and indoor record for the half-mile. He was Conference champion in the half-mile last year. He advises hard work to keep in shape for a sport. Lloyd is looking forward to the Maine West Quadrangular in April, which will have some top-flight half-milers, including national record holder, Larry Kelly. |
