Deards Protects MW Cars

"The reason I'm here is to protect the transportation of the students, the faculty, and the employees," declared Mr. Russell Deards, Safety-Security officer at MW.

There was a time when cars were unsafe in the parking lot. Now that Mr. Deards is on duty, automobiles are doubly protected.

When asked what he thought the greatest cause of teenage accidents was, he replied, "Tailgating causes more accidents than anything else, regardless of the driver. It can be an adult or a teenager, still, the accident occurs."
There have been several minor accidents in the parking lots, but these have been caused by people who have disobeyed the traffic laws. "Accidents don't just happen, they are caused."

Before the days of traffic lights, Mr. Deards rode with the County Sheriff to aid in insuring safety on the roads of the county. He did this work voluntarily.

Policing is now a hobby of Mr. Deards, but he has had many experiences with traffic problems. Presently he is a member of the Fox Valley Police Association and the Illinois Police Reserves.
