Students Vie for Scholarship

The 29th annual American Legion Constitution Contest, sponsored by the Maine West Social Science Department and the Des Plaines American Legion Post No. 36, has aroused the same attention this year as it has in the past. The basic purpose of the contest is to encourage a more serious study of the Constitution.

Any students interested in entering the contest should sign up with their Social Science teacher, or, if not presently taking a social science course, they may sign up with Mr. Harlan Suffield in Room A-212. By Monday, April 5th all registrations must be turned in.

The winning entrant of the contest will receive a $100 scholarship, payable upon matriculation in the college he or she chooses to attend. Also, the winner's name will be inscribed upon a plaque in the library.
On Tuesday, April 6th in room A-201, an objective test on the Constitution will be given. Competing in the final oral examination will be the seven highest scorers. The oral exams will cover the student's interpretation and understanding of the Constitution. This examination will be held in the library conference room on Friday, April 23rd.

The Legion committee members are Mr. James Radlein, Americanism chairman; Mr. Floyd Fulle, Mr. Orville Kurtz, Mr. Ken Griffin, Mr. Harold Ullrich, post commander; and Willard Beamesderfer.

The Maine West Social Science committee consists of Mr. Suffield, chairman; Mr. Verne Brownell, Mr. Gaston Freeman, Mr. Kenneth Lindquist, Mr. Walter Boston, Mr. William Kiddle, and Mr. Glen Hoffman, departmental chairman.

Copies of questions used in past oral examinations will be placed on reserve in the library. Ask for these at the desk.

This Constitution Contest is open to all students at Maine West.
