AAUN Encourages U.S. Student Interest

A United Nations organization specially suited to high school students is the High School UN Program.

This program is a result of increased interest in the UN among high school students. The HSUN is encouraged and assisted by the American Association for the United Nations and is initiated by student and faculty interest.

A major goal of the AAUN is to encourage wide student interest in the activities of the United Nations. Local chapters of the AAUN and the Collegiate Council for the United Nations are excellent sources of help and information to high school groups.

In addition to the increase of UN clubs in individual high schools, there are several citywide or sectional High School UN Councils, predominantly in New York City, Baltimore, Western Penn., and Colorado.
The aims of the HSUN Program are to help students gain a fuller understanding of the United Nations, its specialized agencies in the broad setting of world events and to help students gain a perception and evaluation of the new techniques that the UN develops for international cooperation and service.

Any club recognized by the proper authorities in the school can join if it accepts the three basic qualifications and the mini mum requirements set down by the HSUN Program.

The qualifications are one, including the UN as one of the major interests; two, stimulating student understanding of the functions of the UN; and three, developing student programs concerning the UN.

The minimum requirements are that the club must be accepted by the school, it must have an adult advisor, and it must have a membership of at least 10. The subscription fee from the Club to the AAUN is $5 per year.
