Pat LaSalle and Gail Horn Star in Play

"Playing my part as Lieutenant Joseph Cable in South Pacific is a great challenge," commented Pat LaSalle in the Maine West auditorium, between rushing backstage and trying to watch his counterpart, Paul Hummel '66, on stage.

Although he's been in many plays with the Footlighters, Des Flames' young theater group, Pat finds his newest role difficult because it is so different from anything he has ever done. He has always done comedy and finds doing his first straight role hard. Pat is in National Honor Society and is a member of the Thespian Society.

Besides drama, Pat is very interested in art and is president of Art Club. He plans to attend the University of Illinois to study commercial art.

As president of the Art Club, Pat got himself into quite a situation. At Homecoming this fall he was thrown onto the Art Club float with an Indian costume and given orders to put it on.

It seems the person who was supposed to wear it was unable to, and they picked the nearest person to do the job. Unfortunately, it was Pat, who was so tall he had to squat, Indian-fashion, in front of the tee-pee where he was supposed to stand.

Pat likes the great opportunities here at Maine West and wishes more kids would realize how lucky they are to have such a wonderful school.

(NOTE: Other stars in South Pacific will be interviewed at a later date.)

"Hey, who's that big, fat, straggly-haired girl that just waddled by?"

"I don't know. Throw her a fish and see what she does."
"Hey! She's coming back again. Say, isn't that Gail Horn?"

"Naaah ... Gail Horn is 5 foot 4, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She doesn't look like that girl at all. That girl has ugly black hair, and Gail has always wished that hers was a little blonder. Even if Gail's favorite pastime is food-she never has been that fat! Gail keeps in shape by water-skiing. She was supposed to go water-skiing over Christmas vacation, but she didn't quite make it."

"Yeah, but

"And Gail's favorite subject is art. Look at those loud colors! An artist wouldn't wear something like that. She'd have to be color blind. But then, have you ever noticed how Gail's greens never seem to match?"

"Yeah, but

"And Gail would never waddle around like that. She has poise. That's why kids used to her 'Boom-Boom La Horn' during her sophomore year. Of course, there was the time when she was running around a chair in Time Out for Ginger rehearsals, and she fell flat on her back; but usually she's very coordinated."

"Yeah, but .

"Yeah, but what?"

"Did you ever hear of Bloody Mary? She's a character in the musical, South Pacific."

"Yeah."

"She's a big, fat, scraggly-haired woman, right?" -

"Yeah."

"And Gail's active in A Cappela Choir and Thespian Society, so it stands to reason that she'd have a role in South Pacific, right?"

"Say ... That is Gail Horn! Hey Gail! Wait! You forgot your fish ..........
