Maine Increases Utilization Of Audio Visual's Equipment

"Due to better teaching techniques, there is increased usage of audio visual equipment," declared Mr. Vernon Brownell, head of the Audio Visual Department.

Twenty people work in this department, 16 boys and four girls. Mainly, the boys have the responsibility of delivering all audio visual equipment to classrooms when teachers require it.

Janet Arnswald '66, Sharon Bales '66, Shirley Robaus '66, and Marianne Sloan '66, are the four girls who do various jobs around the office. Janet makes out work sheets, Sharon handles some of the billing and checks films out to make sure they're mailed, Shirley processes films and writes information on IBM cards, and Marianne helps in making out film purchase orders.

The girls also keep track of all rental films that come in, make up tally sheets which tell the boys what classrooms to distribute films to, and make up worksheets from requisitions teachers fill out. They also work with the IBM cards.
"Maine is one of the first schools to use the IBM system for control of rental films."

There is a set of IBM cards for the files which tell when films arrive and where they are while they're here. Proper notations on the cards tell when films are due back to the company.

"This is the first year that teachers have made out their film requisitions on IBM tabulation sheets," added Mr. Brownell.

"This year Maine has kept within the school's economy system, but next year it will be essential to order more film projectors and tape recorders to meet the demand of the teachers."

During the year the audio visual department has shown an estimate of 1,300 films. Next year more films will be shown to capture the interest of the students.
