| By Tim McCartney Two track coaches are making their debuts this spring. They are Mr. Robert Goerne and Mr. William Kiddle. Both are kept very busy by coaching, teaching, and keeping their families happy. Their associates in track are Mr. Joe Jobst and assistant Mr. Chuck Lawyer. Although Coach Kiddle has coached freshman basketball at a previous school, track remains his favorite sport. He lettered four times in track while attending Highland Park High School. Later, he went on to Lake Forest College and Northern Illinois University. The new faculty member teaches history, is married, and has three children. Coach Kiddle deals with shot putters and the discus both in indoor and outdoor track. "The boy who has the ability, but doesn't put out" is his pet peeve. |
Coach Robert Goerne lettered twice in football, four times in track, and twice in basketball during his years at Streator High School. During his attendance at North Central College, he earned four letters in both track and basketball. The coach says track is his favorite because its an individual sport. He conducts varsity and frosh-soph pole vaulting along with jumping. In his first year at Maine West, he is a math teacher. Coach Goerne previously taught at North Chicago High School. Aside from sports the new coach plays piano as a hobby. "People that just exert half effort and won't go out of their way" is his pet peeve. Coach Goerne believes the most difficult part about coaching is "getting the kids to realize that one cannot succeed in anything without hard work." |
