Runners Stop Maroons 91-9

In the 35th annual Oak Park Relays, John Greco was the only Warrior to place for Maine West. John was third in the mile run behind Bruce Bowman and Craig Grant, both of Proviso West.

The Oak Park Relays is the biggest indoor track meet of the year.

Under the direction of head Coach Joe Jobst, Maine West's varsity track squad trounced Elgin 91-9 in its last indoor dual meet of the year. The Warriors took firsts in all 12 events.

To start the meet, Bernie Braun took 1st in the broad jump with Jim Hren taking 3rd for the Warriors. Herm Zelk and Jerry Nolan then placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the high hurdles. Maine swept the 50-yard dash with Rich Bokor 1st, Bernie Braun 2nd, and Vern Ray 3rd.
Kevin Flurkey raced to 1st place in the 880-yard run, and Mike Amling placed 3rd for the tracksters. Maine's 4-lap relay team of Braun, Bob Rosedale, Barry Johnson, and Vern Ray raced to a new indoor school record of 1:16.2

The trackmen swept the 440-yard dash with Bokor first, Jim Braun 2nd, and Pete Schafft 3rd. Bokor has run the 440 in seven meets and has taken 1st every time to close out the indoor season as the undefeated Warrior in this event.

Zelk won the low hurdles, and Ray placed 2nd. Russ Susko finished 1st in the mile run for West, with Bob Zografos and Phil Martin taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Warrior high jumpers, pole vaulters, and shot putters picked up points in their events. Wally Tistle, Dick Wells, and Jim Clouse took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the high jump. Ken Bixby won the shot put, with Tom Smith taking 2nd.
