Fine Arts Festival Sure
to be Success

This year's Fine Arts Festival, which was inaugurated two year's ago, will be presented again on Sunday, May 2nd, at 2:00 pm. here.

Combining talents with the Music and Drama Departments, the Art Department and the Industrial Arts Department will have a variety of displays and demonstrations.

An exhibit consisting of the paintings and drawings previously shown or entered in the Scholastic Art Exhibit at Wieboldts, will be displayed in the halls.

The highlight of the Art Department will be a demonstration of Op Art in color to be demonstrated by some of Mr. John McCarthy's students in C-204. Also in that room will be a demonstration on glass mosaics and silk screening by Miss Angela Zabransky's students and wood-cuts by Mr. John McCarthy's students.

Mr. Earl Meitzner's students will do a demonstration on ceramics, sculpture, and cut paper design in A-208.

Demonstrations of drawing, painting, sculpture, and art history models will be done by some of Mr. George Blanas' students in A-206.

The Art Club will have an exhibit of careers in that field displayed in the corridor in front of the library.

Randy Black '66, Mike Brennan '66, Sue Maynard '67, Cheri Mercer '66, and Jane Wolski '65, will do short impromptu, unrehearsed, paintings to music by a full orchestra in the auditorium. Also in the auditorium will be Miss Nancy Ferguson's dancers, dancing unrehearsed to the music of the orchestra.

The Music Department will play a big part in the Fine Arts Festival on Sunday.

Directed by Mr. Wilbur Schafer, A Capella Choir, the Girls' Glee Club, and the Men's Glee Club will participate in the show.

A Capella Choir will sing "My Spirit Sang All Day," by Finzi and "Besame Mucho," by Velazquez, with Bonnie Boeck '65, accompanist. They will also do "Valse," a choral speaking selection, an innovation at Maine West. Bob Burgess '66 and Bill Me Colman '65 will be on percussion.
The Girl's Glee Club is to sing "Breakers Off Barranquilla' by Clokey, and "With a Song in My Heart" by Rogers, from "Spring is Here" with Bonnie Boeck '65 as accompanist.

The Men's Glee Club will sing "Aura Lee" and "Set Down Servant," a spiritual.

The String Orchestre, conducted by Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, will play "Violin Concerto No. II" by J. S. Bach, with Roberta Wells '65 as soloist and "Concerto Grosso" (a march) by R. V. Williams will follow.

The Concert Orchestra, also conducted by Mrs. Heidorn, will play "Rapsodie pour Piano et Orchestre" by Rachmaninoff, with Karen Flavin '65 as soloist.

The band, directed by Mr. Robert Kuite, will play "March from the Love of Three Oranges" by Prokofieff, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Dukus, "Rhapsody in Blue" by Gershwin, with Brian Dole '65, pianist. "Prelude and Rondo," from "Suite for Band," opus 26, by Tuthill, "Dance of the Molecules" by Rose, and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by Sousa.

The Maine West Show Band will play "Congenial," arranged by Mr. Jared Spears, "Tonight" from "West Side Story," arranged by Ted Ingram, "Dave's Tune," arranged by Wally Barnet, featuring Dave Thinnis '65 on the vibraharp. Also, "Mr. Anthony's Boogie" by Ray Anthonie.

The Industrial Arts Department will display their award winning projects from the Northern Illinois Exhibit and other outstanding projects in R-104. The projects will include work produced in most of the shops at Maine West.

The Drama Department, headed by Mr. Garth Boyer, will put on a one-act play called "Box and Cox." Jack Barret '65 will play the role of Box, John Noyer '66 will be Cox, and Cathy Solare '65 will play the role of Mrs. Bouncer. The play, directed by Linda Rasmussen '65, is a story which revolves around a room being rented out by Mrs. Bouncer. She rents the room to one person during the daty and another during the night. The fun begins when they both show up and claim the room as "mine!"
