| "Sergeant Friday! They've brought the line-up in for your inspection. Is there any suspect you'd like to speak to?" "Well, they all look pretty suspicious." "Let's start with the one farthest to the right." "Do you have any particular reason for starting with her?" "I understand she's the leader of the notorious Westerner mob. And look at those shifty green eyes. They don't look real." "I see what you mean. Would the 5 foot 6 inch young lady with brown hair please step forward for questioning?" ''Yes sir.'' "State your name." "Lorna Seitz." "Would you please tell us your whereabouts on the night of March 10th?" "Well, I don't remember exactly - but chances are I was at work. I spend a great deal of my time working on the Des Plaines Journal. Either that or getting a scoop for The Westerner at a Student Council meeting." "Miss Seitz, do you have anything else to say in your defense?" "Well, I'm secretary-treasurer of Quill & Scroll. That's an honorary journalistic society . . . "I think we'd better retain you for further questioning. Guard!" "But I'm innocent!" "Confine her to four years at Northern Illinois University.' |
"All right kid; uh, why don't you pull over to the side of the road? That a boy, fella; now gimme your name. H-E-M-P-E-L, you say. Ken? Oh! K-E-N-N! Sorry about that. Why two n's?" "That's so people won't confuse me with my father." "Oh, does he spell it with three?" "Yuk, yuk! Now what's the problem?" "How do you like being man-aging editor of the Westerner?" "Oh, I manage to get along. Actually it's a very interesting job." "How else do you keep busy?" "I've been in extravaganzas like V-Show, Brigadoon, Kiss Me Kate, Time Out For Ginger, and last year's Student Council elections. Now I'm in A Cappella Choir, Choraliers, Student Council, Latin Club, Sigma Chi Sigma, and I am vice president of National Thespian Society and Art Club, and . . . 11 "Please, would you stop munching those motzos and speak distinctly!" "Oh, yes, sorry! I have been in Des Plaines' "Footlighters," a youth theater group, and have appeared in the p 1 a y Meet Me In St. Louis, and in the musicals Our Miss Brooks and Ask Any Girl. I enjoy music, drama, and sketching very much. I was secretary of French Club and a member of Stagecrafters and the memory record staff. And I will be in Quill and Scroll and . "Thank you. I suppose you have some pet peeves?" "No. I used to but they all died." "Very interesting. Any future plans?'' "Graduation, then on to the University of Illinois to major in journalism and art." "What! Are you trying to be funny, kid?" "No, sir. By the way, why did you stop me, officer? Was I too swift?" "Of course not; I just happen to have some tickets for the Policeman's Ball and - - "No, thanks .1 have enough problems!" |
