MW Netmen Down Champs

Arlington will be the scene of action for the tennismen as they enter District play this Saturday. They met Deerfield for the second time yesterday. Niles North was blanked 5-0, Tuesday, on the home courts.

The varsity tennis squad easily whipped last year's Conference champions, Deerfield, April 15th, scoring four wins to Deerfield's one.

The first singles player, Dennis Doyle, suffered the only loss in the match against Deerfield. Jim Richards and Tom Martin, singles players of Maine West, each outlasted their opponents. The first doubles team for the Westmen was Bob French and Claude Stuart, who continued their winning streak of eight meets. Bob Reinhart and Les Belzer easily won their match, also.

Blue Island gave Maine West its second loss this spring on Tuesday, April 13th. The Warriors were edged 3-2.

The Westmen overpowered Palatine 4-1 on April 12th in a home contest. The squad lost only one event.
The Prospect Knights found the Warriors a tough team as MW showed four wins against Prospect's one on Saturday, April 10th, in an away meet.

Maine West lost to Willowbrook in a home meet, 3-2, on Friday, April 9th. With the same score, Maine overcame Waukegan on April 6th.

The varsity racketmen edged the Barrington Broncos last Monday afternoon on the Maine West tennis courts in a nonconference meet, the final score being 3-2. The doubles team of French and Stuart are undefeated in nine different meets. The squad's overall record is five wins and two losses, while the Conference record is two wins and no losses.

In the first singles event, Dennis Doyle defeated his Barrington opponent. Warrior singles contestants, Richards and Martin, were the only Westmen to lose in the meet.

Undefeated French and Stuart won their ninth match in the first doubles event. Reinhart and Beizer, Maine's second doubles team also were victorious.
