Debaters Beat Proviso West |

| The 1965 varsity debate team snatched an unprecedented second Maine West win on the WBKB television interscholastic debate show, Rebuttal. The program was taped on April 20th, and the final score was 2-1, Maine beating Proviso West, which is considered one of the area's top debate teams. The question debated was Resolved: Should the federal government aid Olympic athletes by paying the cost of transportation (to and from the Olympic games)? Proviso West held the affirmative side, and Maine West held the negative position. |
The participating Maine West debaters were Doug Bergman '67, Joy Heckenbach '66, Dawn Piotter '65, and Rob Reinhart '65. This victory makes the debaters eligible for the quarter finals, which will be taped May 28th. At this time, Maine West will compete with York High School on the question Resolved: Is extremism a threat to our society? The debate between Maine West and Proviso West will be shown on May 22nd, at 1:30 p.m., on Channel 2. |
