| This year's Legend, which will come out in a few weeks, owes part of its success to two senior girls, Donna Batdorf, and Kathy Flentge. Donna is editor-in-chief, while Kathy is the managing editor. These girls have put a lot of work into the yearbook and say that this hook will be the best yet! In her four years at Maine West, Donna Batdorf has received many honors and has remained very active. Donna has won "Homemaker of the Year" at Maine West in a contest sponsored by Betty Crocker. Quill and Scroll, National Honor Society, and being on the "A" Honor Roll all four of her high school years are also part of her accomplishments. Although Donna makes coffee six gallons at a time, she claims that she likes tea better. Much of her after school time is spent working in the cafeteria at the Littlefuse Company in Des Plaines She also tries out her new child psychology theories on her baby brother, Joey. Donna fondly recalls her most embarrassing moment as the time she almost lost her toga in the library during Latin Week in her sophomore year. As for favorites, Donna will pick baked potatoes with sour cream and anything blue. She enjoys Latin IV Ace. and chemistry, especially on lab days. Sewing and making her own clothes are Donna's hobbies. She has an interest in Japanese poetry and likes to read the works of e. e. cummings. Concerning Maine West, Donna didn't like the idea of going to a big school, but now she's glad because she might have missed many opportunities. |
Kathy Flentge has led an active four years at Maine. She was secretary-treasurer of Pep Club in her sophomore and junior years and has been on the "B" Honor Roll. She is a member of the Historical Society and Quill and Scroll and is a senior leader. Her hobbies are reading and eating wild rice and French fried onion rings. "Mud-lucious" and "Puddle wonderful" are favorite expressions. Her petpeeve is people whose world is so small that they don't realize anything going on around them. Kathy's ambition is to write for a women's magazine, for she feels that there could be much improvement in the articles in present magazines. She believes that the stories should challenge the modern American young housewife, instead of just telling her how to care for ten children. Lunch is Kathy's favorite subject, and green is her favorite color. She likes Maine West, because it offers much diversity. Kathy's most unforgettable and embarrassing moment was when she had to dress like a jack-in-a-box at Woolworths to promote the T.V. program Romper Room. Kathy is looking forward to attending the University of Illinois in Champaign where she will major in journalism or political science. |
