GAA Girls Recall A Year
Full of Fun at Their Dessert

The annual GAA Awards Dessert was held on May 28, 1965 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Girls in GAA received charms for the points they had accumulated over the year. To receive a charm 75 points are needed. The three girls with the highest number of points are seniors Gloria Frank with 662 points, Barb Colberg with 602 points, and Marilyn Jenks with 612 points. Service awards were also presented to the girls from each class with outstanding service to the organization. These winners were selected by their classmates. The girls chosen were Linda Klippert '68, Chris Doell '67, Karen Schacht '66, and Mel Clarke '65. At this dessert, the GAA $250 scholarship was awarded to Gloria Frank '65. "The concession stands for football were very profitable," mentioned Miss Barbara Bovenmeyer. "They brought our treasury from red to black. We were able to award the GAA scholarship this year from the money we accumulated."

Sleeping in puptents and boating at the Chain of Lakes State Park was the scene for 25 girls (13 from Maine West and 12 from Maine South) on the weekend of May 23rd. To the disappointment of the campers the weather was rainy, and at the beginning of the day, the girls ate "soggy eggs" because of the rain.

Three play nights were held during this year and all were very successful. Girls from eight schools from the Mid-Suburban Conference participated. Along with girls from Maine West, these visitors enjoyed themselves playing volleyball.

Another fun event of the GAA year was the Daddy-Daughter Deal. Approximately 80 persons came for volleyball, badminton, and swimming. "Everyone had a great time except for the dads who were stiff and sore the next day," revealed Miss Bovenmeyer.
Girls on the tennis team competed in the Northwestern Township Conference this season. In this conference the team tied with Evanston for first place.

The girls badminton team put up a great fight, but lost three out of five games in this same Conference.

A variety of intramural sports were very enjoyable and successful for GAAers. The faculty was unlucky this season, for they lost in several sports to the students. In volleyball the freshmen team consisting of Debbie Carroccio, Aurelia Deland, Carol Hendren, Kathy Kallstrand, Linda Klippert, and Mary Mantaswon won two games over the faculty team consisting of Miss Adolph, Miss Bovenmeyer, Miss Clark, Miss Engen, Miss Paset, and Miss Stokes, a student teacher from the University of Illinois. In softball, Mary Lou Burgess, Debbie Carroccio, Mel Clarke, Barb Colberg, Gloria Frank, Kathy Gross, Cheryl Hagedorn, Marilyn Hajost, Carol Hendren, Barb Kosac, Linda Pagel, Sue Stamm, and Lee Winski beat the faculty with a score of 7 to 5.

The faculty, however, didn't I lose in all the events. They bounced back with a victory over the students in basketball, the final score being 26 to 12. In archery the faculty team also won. Along with the female P.E. instructors, Mr. Fred Bencriscutto, Mr. James Killam, and Mr. Paul McKinnis helped the women's team also.

Officers for GAA that were picked for next year are as follows: president, Lee Winski '66; vice-president, Karen Schacht '66; secretary-treasurer, Carol Currier '66; social chairman, Lynda Pagel '67; archery head, Kathy Kallstrand '68; hockey head, Kathy Gross '67; badminton head, Pat Zawodnk '67; baseball head Aurelia Deland '68; softball head, Diane Schettko '66; tennis head, Bonita Junius '67; gymnastics head, Chris Doell '67; volleyball head, Bonnie Milner '66.

This past year has been a fun year for the girls of GAA. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves including the faculty. Next year's GAA should be great fun.
