Girls-there is a reason
By Miss Corinne Clark
The complexities of modern life demand that human beings of all ages possess healthy bodies and minds as well as a capacity for great endurance. This is the 'big" reason for your participation in a physical education class each day of each school year. We are trying, along with the many academic classes, to prepare you for living in the modern age.

We have tried to choose those activities which will be interesting, will have carry-over value, will lead to further activity, and will be within your capacity. We are "teaching" you those skills and activities which will provide you with opportunities to maintain and improve physical, social and mental alertness.

The wise use of leisure time becomes more important to each one of you each year. More leisure time is provided in more vocations. For example, time spent around, on, and in the water has increased immeasurably in recent years. In our swimming program we try to provide you with adequate skills to enjoy any activity in and around the water and to prepare you for any emergency which might arise.
The team activities-field hockey, volleyball, softball and basketball-are a part of our program to develop socially-accepted behavior such as honesty, courage, loyalty, cooperation, self-control and sportsmanship.

The health education class assists you in making emotional adjustments which enable you to face life realistically and helps to develop ability for self-direction in one's own health behavior. In this class you are given the opportunity to develop and practice desirable health behavior and to 'earn the values of healthful living.

Each class situation also provides opportunity for each student to develop the qualities of initiative, responsibility, and leadership. It is up to each of you - if you want to have fun in class, get something from it - participate, cooperate, and enjoy the opportunity afforded you through these activities.
