| A new addition to the Senior Class this year is 5-foot, 3-inch, 17-year-old Denise Kouo. Because her father is an administrator of foreign affairs, dark-haired, brown-eyed Denise has done much traveling. She has lived in three other countries besides the United States. Although she is Chinese, she was born in Paris, France. After living there for ten years, her family moved to Formosa and remained for five years. Leopoldville, the Congo, in the center of Africa, was where she lived before coming to the United States last June. Because Denise has lived in so many different countries, she has learned to speak four different languages: Chinese, English, French, and a little German. Going to college and studying to be an interpreter are her future plans. |
Denise enjoyed living most in the Congo. "There," she said, the people are not in such a hurry, because there aren't as many amusements." After school in the Congo, the teenagers study, read, swim, or play tennis. The most embarrassing moments for Denise are when she's asked to speak in front of her class. She says, "I'm not sure I will say my English right." Most of her time is spent studying, but even Denise tries to find time to continue her hobby - reading novels. Her favorite subject is math, though she isn't taking any this year. The Congo was her place of study for three years of math. |
