| Monday, in bone-chilling wind and 40-degree temperatures, nine freshmen and two sophomores competed in the annual frosh-soph intramural cross country run. The first six freshmen in their respective finishes were Stan Lettrich, Tom Martin, Don LaVergue, Tom Rice, Tom O'Neill, and Tom Zijewski. Running first and second, respectively, in the Sophomore Class were Tom Hendren and Ron Kempke. Football The intramural touch football tournaments for 1964 drew to a close last week with the junior and sophomore championship games. Winning the junior tournament was Coach Baer's 8th period class. Members of the championship team were Cliff Owens, Norm Hudson, Ron Wallace, Bob McGee, Doug Neuman, Tom Wenzel, Brand Gustus, Greg Gundling, Ed Borski, and Pete Kulik, captain. Coach Kennedy's 1st period class came out on top in the final game of the sophomore division by beating Coach King's 2nd period class 25-13 on October 16th. Playing on the winning team were captain Mike Kraft, Jim Mantas, Chuck Dalbee, Jim Luebke, Keith Ahrling, Roman Logisz, Doug Bergman, Mike Mietus, Dave Glade, Gerry Swanson, and Bill Marstadt. |
Tennis Nine freshmen competed in a double elimination tennis tournament last week with Tom Martin emerging as champion of the class of '68. Larry Scully took the Sophomore Class tennis honors by beating Don Clark in their final match. Golf Brand Gustus, Dennis Doyle, and Jeff Pick took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively, in the Junior Class golf tournament by shooting low scores at the Lake Park course. GAA Active On October 12th and 14th the Maine West GAA netsters came out on top in a match with Glenbrook South. On the 12th they won three games and lost two, and on the 14th they shut out Glenbrook North. In the singles Leslie French won by scores of 6-3 and 6-5, and Carla Fasting won 6-4 and 6-0. Marilyn Jenks and Janet Hargrave won by forfeits. Lee Winski and Dotsy Wagar both won by scores of 6-1. The juniors and seniors tied 1-1 in a hockey game on Oct. 7th. The GAA camping girls had a cook-out on October 9th at Northwestern Park. About 15 girls attended. On the 23rd and 24th of October the girls will go on an overnight near Deergrove. About 18 girls are expected to attend. |
