BY DEFEATING Forest View last Saturday, Maine West gained its fourth conference victory in as many attempts. This takes the gridmen just past the half-way point in the conference season. Here's how the teams stand: Things will definitely get tougher for the Warriors in the next few games. Tomorrow's game with Deerfield should turn out to be one of the closer contests of the season. Although Deerfield boasts only a 2-2 record, their losses have been close (9-7 and 19-12) and have come at the hands of two of the finest teams in the conference, Prospect and GB South.

The gridmen will be allowed no respite after the Deerfield game, as they return home next week to host archrival Prospect. The Knights will be out to get their first glance at the exchange trophy built by the two student councils last year.

NO ONE HAS been able to come close to the Maine West varsity cross country team this year, as the thinclads have run their victory string to ten straight. Probably the roughest meet of the season was that against Forest View last Friday. The meet was witnessed by a large crowd (as cross country crowds go) and although half of the spectators were from Forest View, the harriers nevertheless enjoyed the noise.

The league's balance is not too bad this year, with the exception of the two extremes, Maine West and Wheeling. It's a long way between the Warriors' net point total of 132 and Wheeling's of 116.
