Teachers Praised for Service

The theme of this years American Education Week is Education Pays Dividends."

There will be a different theme for each day during the week of Nov. 9th. Mr. Paul McKinnis, counselor, is in charge of pro-moting American Education at Maine West.

This week honoring education was inaugurated by the American Legion and the National Education Association in 1921, to call public attention to the importance of education in a dem-ocracy and to remind every American citizen that good schools are, to a large degree, his personal responsibility.
The United States Office of Education and the National Congress of Parents and Teachers became co-sponsors of the event in 1922 and 1938, respectively. Throughout the 43-year history of the event, its basic purposes have remained unchanged.

Weeks' Purpose

American Education Week still serves as a vital stimulant to moral and financial support for American schools and colleges, providing a ready-made opportunity for local citizens to take a good look at their schools and their needs. On occasion, it even helps prod complacency into action.
