Research Grant Awarded |
||||||||||
| Out of 20 top high schools and colleges in the nation, Maine West and Maine South were chosen to receive a research grant from LAWS. Maine was the only Midwest public high school to receive such an honor. LAWS stands for Leadership and World Society. Each year it awards grants ranging in value from $1,000 to $3,000 to selected schools. The Society's purpose is to promote interest and study in international affairs and the problems of world peace. Mr. Eric Edstrom, a former Maine West teacher, organized the winning research project, approved by his department chairman and the principals |
of Maine West and South schools. Mr. Kenneth Lindquist, Maine West history teacher, will be assisting him on the project. The title of Maine's submission is "Problems of National Sovereignty," consisting of three parts. The first portion involves the production of a film and a recording on the background and on the present status of the problem. The second part is a forum of professors and other experts in the field who will speak to students and faculty. The third consists of participation in a mock UN session to be held at Maine and Northwestern |
