Miss streng travels in frenchgerman cities

Last summer, Miss Rosalie Streng, a Maine West German teacher, traveled through Germany and France.

On June 27th her holiday began as she flew directly to Frankfort, Germany. During July she traveled in France and visited the French cities of Verdun and Nancy, which are located in an area where the First World War was fought. She also visited Domremy, the birthplace of Joan of Are. Miss Streng speaks German fluently but knows little French, which proved to be a handicap. However, one day she went into a small French village bakery and,
in her best French asked for bread. The baker immediately answered her in German.

In August Miss Streng attended a university in Munich, Germany, where she studied courses in literature, linguistics, grammar, and folk singing. All the students who attended the university were from foreign countries. Their common language was German.

Of course, Germany was Miss Streng's favorite country "Because," Miss Streng said, "being a German teacher, I feel very much at home there."
