Pearl harbor remembered

"A sunrise Japanese air attack on Pearl Harbor and other American and British outposts is a day that will live in infamy," quoted ex-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

The attack on Pearl Harbor took place on Dec. 7th, 1941, and drew our country into World War II.

Losses resulting from the attack were 3,500 men and officers killed, wounded, and missing, the USS Arizonia warship was sunk, never to be brought to the surface again. More than 177 planes were shot down.
This was certainly a sad day in the history of the United States. Relatives of our own families were wounded or possibly killed in action. Even though we were not around at the time, we have heard about a cousin or uncle who gave his life for his country.

Twenty-two years have passed and the United States is still at war with other nations. It is a cold war we are fighting, but even though we cannot hear the sonorous booms of guns and bombs we know the hatred in the hearts of the people who are our so called "enemies."

Time will go on and maybe someday soon peace will prevail throughout the entire world. But the tragic war the United States and the Japanese fought in 1941 will never be forgotten.
