Tom plays post office, and chris leads cheers

"Teen-agers should act their age and not try to be older than they really are," comments Chris Petersen. "They should have fun while they're young, and they should take advantage of all their opportunities."

This 5-foot 7-inch senior has light brown hair and blue eyes. When asked what was her most thrilling experience, she replied, "Being chosen captain of our cheerleading squad."

Her pet peeves are people who don't cheer at games, and those who don't attend pep rallies. Chris thinks that school spirit is pretty good, but that there's room for improvement.

One of her most distinguishing traits is that she blushes a lot. She wishes that it could be stopped, but it just can't be helped.

Her most embarrassing moment was when she was cheering the wrong cheer at one of the games - "I was yelling for a basket, and then I realized the other team had the ball."

Chris thinks the most outstanding thing about Maine is the kids.

During her high school years Chris has been on Class Council, V-Show, and Pep Council. Presently she is a senior leader and the captain of the Varsity Cheerleaders.

Chris loves to dance, but most of her time is taken up by studies. This year she is kept busy by English, government, earth science, and family living.

Chris is looking forward to graduation and plans to attend Western Illinois University.

"Hey, look! Who's that boy over there? The one that's running around so frantically?"

"That's Tom Kuna."

"Any relation to Charlie Tuna?"

"Kuna, not Tuna."

"Oh. Gee, he's got pretty auburn hair. But that's beside the point. Why is he so busy?"

"Well, it could be one of many reasons. Probably it's because he's trying to organize the Boys' Club Post Office. He's been on Boys' Club Council for three years.

"Or maybe he's working on some Boys' Business Club project. He's their secretary.

"Once, when he was on a business field trip, he got lost. He could have used a compass then, even a ouija board, except he's scared to death of one."

"He looks like the type to drive a red GTO."

"Nope. He has a 1954 Ford (which he intends to 'junk'). It's grey and maroon and has a set of kissing dolls inside and a tachometer. He doesn't like it though. As a matter of fact, his car and some of the stupid things little old ladies at the Jewel do are among his biggest peeves.

"He works at the Jewel spends most of his time there. That is, when he's not commuting to Cary, Illinois to see 'someone.'

"Every time I've seen him on Wednesday evening, he's had red spots on his clothes."

"That's because his mom makes spaghetti on Wednesdays and he doesn't like it very well, so I suppose he spills a lot, so he doesn't have to eat it. Steak and turkey are his favorite meals."

"Together?"

"You never can tell.

"He's a very bright boy, you know. The thing he thinks Maine West needs is some record hops, or dances, or something to promote better social relationships here at school."

"That's very sound thinking. Wasn't he out for football once"

"Yeah, but then he dislocated his shoulder, and two weeks later broke his collarbone, so he's given it up. He still likes sports, though."

"Hey, he's looking this way. Aren't his brown eyes beautiful!''

"Yeah. Think he knows we're talking about him?"
