Aids learn from nurses |

| "It's been fun working in the nurses' office, because I've had experiences which will help me later in all aspects of life," said Carol Currier '66, who has been a nurses' helper for three years. Another 3-year worker, Chris Rukas '66, added, "It's pleasant." Each year the nurses at Maine West offer an opportunity for students to help in the office. Some of the helpers plan to continue in nursing after high school. These girls have duties ranging from acting as receptionists to administering simple first aid. Involved are such jobs as filing health folders, replenishing supplies on the treatment stands, and typing. Also, the helpers run errands, put mail in the teachers' boxes, and accompany the nurse when a wheelchair is needed. |
The helpers are taught to recognize symptoms of different illnesses. Judging how to handle a patient is another factor they are taught. The girls working in the office this year are Nancy Colvin '68, Carol Currier '66, Linda Dourlain '67, Barb Gajewski '68, Donna Jackson '68, Penny Kanney '66, and Lynn Les '68. Also helping are Sandi Lenneweka '65, Kathy Lloyd '68, Patti Lusk '65, Barb Mayday '66, Janice Peterson '67, Marilyn Peterson '68, Chris Rukas '66, Judy Tepper '68, Margie Ver Meris '66, and Pam Zeimet '66. |
