| How's your battery these days? If the battery fails, it actually may not be the fault of the battery itself but rather a defective generating system, a slipping fan belt, an overload from excessive use of accessories, or from only using the car for short trips. A cautious driver won't be satisfied with simply a recharge or replacement, but will find the cause of the trouble. To prevent defects in the generating system, the electrical system should be checked to make sure the generator is putting out enough voltage to maintain |
the battery at normal charge level. The cable to the starter should be checked to see if it's in good shape and that the connections are clean and tight. The fan belt when moved by hand at a point between two pulleys, should have enough play so that it will move about one inch. Playing the radio while the engine is off will really drain the battery. It wouldn't be much fun to get stuck in a cold school parking lot on a cold winter afternoon with a dead battery. |
