Matmen Face Leyden

Today at 4:30 the varsity grapplers will invade East Leyden in quest of their second victory of the season. East Leyden is a strong team and will give the Warriors a real challenge.

The varsity matmen lost a heart-breaker to Morton West Wednesday 23-22. The winning Warriors were Torn Mordue at 95 lbs., Ron Ploshay at 103 lbs., Tom Hansch at 138 lbs., and Steve Ryden at 154 lbs. All four pinned their opponents with Ryden pinning his opponent in 58 seconds for the fastest pin of the season. John Krumpos, 112 lbs. tied his opponent, but the other seven Warriors fell to defeat.

The matmen whipped Barrington Nov. 21st, by the score 28 to 17. Barrington won only three of the 12 matches. Al Kruse was the only Warrior to pin his opponent in the heavyweight match. Jim Cichowski, Howie Deahr, Jim Kautz,
Krumpos, Mordue, Ploshay, and Jim Stamborski won by decisions. Wayne Rozanski had a tough match in his 127 lb. class which ended in a tie. Hansch, Kautz, Mordue, Ploshay, Rozanski, and Ryden are all juniors and are competing in their first year of varsity wrestling. The returning lettermen are Cichowski at 165 lbs., Krumpos at 120 lbs., and Kruse in the heavyweight division.

Frosh, Soph Split

The sophomore wrestling team lost to West Leyden last Saturday 35-8. The boys winning were Ernie Fulbright and Lee Yates. Russ Currer tied his match 0-0.

The frosh wrestling team lost a tough meet to West Leyden 27-19. Both the frosh and sophomore wrestling teams have records of 1-1.
